Fiji: State of Birds

Fiji: State of Birds

This important report was published with the support of BirdLife International, the Fiji Department of the Environment and local ornithologists.

It provides an overview of the issues and critical considerations facing Fiji’s birds and emphasises how useful birds are as flagships for other elements of the country’s biodiversity. Birds have long been used as indicators of the state of the world’s ecosystems, providing insights into habitat loss, deterioration, pollution and, increasingly, for climate change.

Fiji: State of Birds was launched and presented at a BirdLife International conference in Canada in 2013. Fiji was one of the few countries invited to present their report that year and this publication was acclaimed for both its content and presentation.
